1- Location 

It was established by Presidential decree (506/1979).It is 60  Km far from  Alexandria and 7 Km far from North Coast   .

2- General plan

The total area of ​​the city  is 47.403 thousand acres of which 30 thousand acres are built up area (Residential areas - services -  industrial -tourism and recreation ....) .

3- Housing sector

The total number of  housing units is  25150 of which

9473  implemented  by New Urban Communities Authority ,

9485 implemented by private sector and

 6192 implemented by Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces.

- The total number of   housing units being implemented  is  27934 of which

3216  implemented by New Urban Communities Authority  ,

3984 ( social housing )  by Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces ,

 280 ( Japanese University  ) and

 20454 ( national housing ) by private sector.

5- Utilities and infrastructure sector
Drinking water:

-The city is fed with drinking water  by the  purification plant at kilo 40  Cairo/ Alexandria desert road  .

-Length of finished networks:  655.913 km.

Sanitation:

- A treatment plant  with the  capacity of 36 thousand m3 / day has been  implemented .

-The  first phase of a treatment plant with the  capacity of 115 thousand m3 / day is being implemented. 

-Length of finished networks: 425.127 km.

Electricity:

-3 transformer stations with the capacity of 325 M. F. A have been  finished.

-Length of finished networks: 2334 km.

Roads and communications:

-Length of finished road networks: 581   km.
-Length of finished communication networks: 437 km.

Agriculture:

It includes cultivation of green areas and forestation of roads .

6- Industry sector

-There are 1271 producing factories  with 1.72 billion pounds as an investment capital, with an annual production of 10.47 billion pounds which  provided 100.2 thousand jobs paying 318.7 million pounds annually.

- Utilities sector           :  2.8billion pounds
- Services  sector         : 217.9  million pounds
