Within the framework of New Urban Communities Authority's trend toward planning, designing, constructing and operating green sustainable urban communities in order to achieve energy and water efficiency, waste management, sustainable transport, and green low ـــ cost construction systems, the minister of Housing , Utilities and Urban Communities issued decree No. 512/2014 to establish  the Central Unit for Sustainable Cities and Renewable Energy .

Formation :

The unit is managed by the head of the unit, the executive director and the general coordinator. The unit also includes members from the departments of (Development - Electricity - Agriculture - Planning and Projects - Information Center- Utilities) at NUCA .

Four relevant sub-units are formed in (South Upper Egypt - North Upper Egypt - East of Cairo - West of Cairo) sectors.

Goal

Proposing and activating strategies and plans necessary to achieve green sustainable urbanization standards in new cities and providing relevant technical support, consulting and studies in either the existing new cities or cities to be built.

Mission

Supporting planning, designing, constructing and operating green sustainable urban communities in order to achieve energy and water efficiency, waste management, sustainable transport, and green low- cost construction systems.

Preparing urgent and long-term plans and executive programs needed for energy rationalization and use of renewable energy in new cities.

Activating the use of specifications, codes and evaluation systems of sustainable planning and design in general and energy in particular.

Integrating environmental management in new cities, including waste management, focusing on recycling through an integrated society partnership.

Supporting  application of cleaner production technology in factories in new cities.

Preparation and implementation of awareness programs, capacity building and skills necessary to prepare the cadres in new cities .

Cooperation, coordination and exchange of information with the central unit for energy efficiency as well as competent national and international authorities

Highlights

1- A solar energy station has been installed above the NUCA building by the power of 50 KW.

 2-Solar Energy Station has been installed above the Local authority of Tiba City by the power of 90 KW.

3- Solar Energy Station above the Local authority of Borj el Arab by the power of 65 KW

4- A solar energy station by the power of 65 kw above El Sadat  local authority .

5- Installation of a solar energy station by the power of 45 kilo watt for 15th May local authority .

6-New solar energy station above environmental culture corner building in el sheik zayed city by power 12 KW/H

7-Installation of  new solar energy station above el Menya local authority building by 5 kw .

8-Central solar power station is working for lighting Tiba –Qena East desert Road by 4 km to be the first road totally lighted by central solar energy (PV) .

9-Installing central solar energy station for  lighting Nile Sat Road  of 7 km in 6th of October City .

10- Financial evaluation  for the solar energy station in the new Qena city & new Assiot city by 60 KW /h per each .

11-  Technical evaluation for the solar energy station in new Saleheia city by 60 KW/H

12- Street lighting project : Converting from Sodium by LED in 6 new cities by the cost of 71,000 LE

13- Street lighting project  : Installing 110 LED in El Hosary square & currently installing  320 LED in the surrounding area by 145 KW

14-As a pilot project , installation of solar heaters above 4 buildings of Social Housing through the initiative of Shamsk ya Masr as a guiding model for other cities .

15- A contract have been signed for installing solar heaters on roof tops of 10 social buildings in El Sadat & its working now .

16 - Exchanging all the lighting system in the NUCA building through the donation of developing the energy efficiency program UNDP .

17- As preparing El Shiekh Zayed to be a role model for green sustainable cities , an environmental cultural corner has been built from the construction wastes and producing energy from the solar cells .

18- Tender documents for Sustainable transport has been offered to start making 5 lines of transportation in Shiekh Zayed & 6th of October in cooperation with Ministry of Development .

19- Operation of a grey water treatment unit accorning to  the Protocol which is signed with Masr el Khair Institution in 15TH Of May city & El Sadat & preparing for other 10 models

20- About Recycling Compost , there is production in each of Tiba & Salheia &Soh
